Abstract
In 1985, the Center for Fire Research (CFR) at the U. S. National Bureau of Standards (NBS) began studies of oil spill combustion. This work seeks to understand the process of oil spill combusiton on open waters and in water filled channels formed in broken ice. It is intended to be a cooperative effort leading to results that may be used to generalize specific measurements of oil spill burn efficiency performed by Smith and Diaz (1085) at the EPA-OHMSETT facility in Leonardo, NJ.
