- Abstract
- My name is Jack Waller. I am Legislative Representative of the International Association of Fire Fighters, AFL-CIO, whole approximate 150,000 members includes most of the professional fire fighters in the United States. Our President, Howard McClennan, has asked me to convey to you his sincere appreciation of this opportunity to present our views on S. 3766. Our members are vitally interested in the reduction of the loss through fire of thousands of lives and billions of dollars in property each year. We are equally concerned with the mounting number of deaths and injuries suffered by fire fighters in their work of protecting lives and property. Our organization strongly supported passage, in the spring of 1968, of the Fire Research and Safety Act of 1968. The Congress, through its action in passing this landmark legislation, showed that it, too, was aware of, and concerned about, the catastrophic losses of life and property through fire.
