- Abstract
- The proces by which molecular mixing of a conserved scalar occursin a turbulent flow is central to any theoretical description of turbulent mixing and ocmbustion, and to moedls for predicting the behavior of turbulent flames. Here we describe results from fully-resolved, multi-dimensional imaging measurements of SC > > 1 and SC [symbol] 1 onserved scalar mixing and the associated scalar energy dissipation rate field in turbulent flows. These measurements allow the precise fine scale structure of the molecular mixing process to be directly determined, and are sufficiently resolved to even reveal a self-similar internal structure within the resulting strained laminar molecular diffusion layers.
