- Abstract
- Most systematic studies of textile flammability, both at TRI and elsewhere, have been concerned with homopolymeric fibrous systems. This is understandable, since it was necessary to build up a background of reliable experimental techniques and information on the behavior of specific polymeric species before any progress could be made. However, it is indisputable that textile materials will more likely than not be used in the form of mixtures, either as deliberate blends of various fibers in yarns and fabrics or as inadvertent mixtures such as would occur in end products (e.g., apparel, drapery, carpets, and upholstery). Information concerning the flammability behavior of such heterogeneous systems is of importance to both the immediate and long range research and development activities of the textile industry.
