Abstract
[Abstract in English] According to an Austrain code of practice concerning installation guidelines for fire detection systems the application of ionization chamber smoke detectors is expected to be reliable without further proof only up to heights less than 1300 m above sea level. Tests in accordance with EN 54 part 9 were performed in a suitable test room at a height of 1720 m above sea level, using TF2 and TF4 of EN 54 Part 9. The results are presented as graphs of the smoke densities measured and discussed. They suggest that concerning the response-behavior of a smoke detector the performance of a developing fire itself is most essential. Therefore the relative mass loss due to burning until the response of a smoke detector is a significant parameter for calculating his reliability as to losses by fire damage.
