- The Factory Mutual System is committed to the reduction of preventable property losses. The fundamentals of loss control that guide Factory Mutual today have grown out of a unique past. Throughout our history, we have attempted to expand the search for effective loss control methods from the trial-and error process of earlier centuries to the purposeful examination of specific hazards and losses. Prevention, through intelligent loss control management, requires an appreciation of the historical development of techniques and equipment. This booklet is meant to give a flavor of that development.
