- Abstract
- The loss of life by fire in the home is a significant problem in the United States. If the homes had been equipped with an early-warning fire detection device, between 40 percent and 50 percent of the people killed in these fires might have been saved. One early-warning fire detection device that shows great promise is the single-station smoke detector, a fact that is being recognized by more and more American code authorities. As a consequence, an increasing number of the US building codes are requiring the installation of single-station smoke detectors in all new housing.
