Abstract
Concrete mixtures require sufficient workability for proper placement. In particular, sprayed, pumped and self-compacting concretes require careful definition and control of their flow properties to produce good workability. The American Concrete Institute (ACI) sub-committee 236A, "Workability of Fresh Concrete," is taking a material science-based approach to provide better methods for measuring concrete workability. This paper will summarize the test performed in France in October 2000 to compare five concrete rheometers. Some conclusions will be drawn and an outline of further needed research will also be given.
