- Abstract
- A brief review is presented of the conventional classifications of occupancies in building codes and the property use categories employed in the collection of fire incident data. Statistical data collected on combustible contents (fire loads) is described, but the critical importance of other factors is emphasised. The critical nature of the occupancy is illustrated in an example involvinag a comprehensive evaluation of occupant and facility evacuation difficulty for a specific, well-defined building use.
