Abstract
We have conducted a series of burn tests to compare the results of an accidental fire involving TATB-based explosives vs one involving HMX-based explosives. The very insensitive TATB burns more than five times slower than HMX, providing a clear advantage in reduced heating and a significantly lower probability of a transition to detonation.
