- Effective July 19, 1972, all children's sleepwear, sizes 0 to 6X, manufactured (or imported) in the U.S. must either be flame retardant, or be prominently, permanently, conspicuously and legibly labeled with the following statement: "Flammable (Does Not Meet U.S. Department of Commerce Standard DOC FF 3-71). Should not be worn near sources of fire."
