Abstract
The present status of the theory of the propagation of flames and detonations supported by a single step unimolecular reaction is summarized. The extension of the treatment to complex systems of chemical kinetics is also discussed. It is apparent that most of the basic principles of the propagation of flames and detonations are now understood, but a great deal of very difficult research remains in order to apply this approach to practical systems.
