- Abstract
- A survey of 1,000 households in six areas of Ulster was conducted to ascertain attitudes towards housing circumstances. These six areas are the City of Kingston, Villages, Suburban, Resort, Rural and Mountain Town. Ulster County has a relatively old aged population. The educational occupational and income levels are highest in the Villages and Suburban Towns, lowest in the Mountain Towns. Owner income levels are generally higher than those for renters. By far, the largest proportion of respondents have always lived in Ulster. Owners have lived in the County and in their present units longer than renters. The least mobile populaiton is in Kingston although the most intra-County movement is from the City to the Suburban Towns. Except for Kingston, where it was marriage or the fact that relatives lived there and the Mountain Towns where it was retirement, the major reasons for the move to present units was job transfer and work availability.
