- The Fire Research and Safety Act of 1968 has influenced the technical literature in two important ways: First, it has given added definition and thrust to the field of "fire research and safety," thus identifying a new focus for the collection and dissemination of information which has heretofore been scattered through various disciplines and fields; Second, it has assigned responsibility to the National Bureau of Standards (via the Department of Commerce) for "fire information references services, including the collection, anaysis, and dissemination of data, research results, and other information...related to fire protection, fire control, and reduction of death, personal injury, and property damage..."
