Abstract
Rate of heat release has been recognized as one of the important fire responses of a material which helps to determine its performance in fire situations. Significant progress has been made in developing methods of measuring the rate of heat release in recent years but the application of the results to the prediction of fire performance still lags. Methods of measuring rate of heat release, ranging from laboratory scale methods to full scale room simulations, are now being considered for adoption as standard test methods by appropriate organizations. However, there is still no agreement s to methods of expressing heat release rate or of applying the results to the prediction of fire performance.
