Abstract
Recently, there has been an increased interest in studies of soot formation in laminar diffusion flames. Because such flames represent a simple analogue to more complex practical flames, their study represents an important step in the understanding of soot formation in such practical systems. To date, however, only a few studies have addressed the importance of transport processes on the growth of soot particles. In this work, the results of detailed measurements of the temperature, velocity and soot particle fields are reported for a series of laminar diffusion flames. Emphasis is given to understanding soot particle transport and growth processes.
