- Abstract
- Fire safety is an engineering problem. Like any engineering problem, man's success at its solution involves all aspects of our society. he degree of fire safety of our environment depends upon the buildings we design and build, the materials from which they are made, the furniture and furnishings put into them, and even the clothing we wear. The economic problems of owners, the available level of scientific knowledge of architects and engineers, the progress in development of construction materials, the nature and design of energy using appliances, and the habits of smokers all have an effect on the fire safety of our built environment.
