- Abstract
- The Society of the Plastics Industry is a trade association concerned with the responsible advancement of the plastics industry. Its membership consists of about 1,100 companies that supply raw materials, process or manufacture plastics or plastics materials, make molds and other accessory equipment, and manufacture plastics machinery. It is estimated that the member companies account for over 75 percent of the dollar volume of the domestic plastics industry. This study, which was jointly sponsored by these two societies, is to be the initial basis for the plastics industry's contribution to the National Commission on Materials Policy. Since the plastics industry is highly complex, this preliminary study was necessarily limited to highlights. a really comprehensive study would require much more detailed work. The overall objective of this study was to estimate the size and nature of the plastics industry in the year 2000 and to predict the problems it may encounter in the intervening years.
