Abstract
Gloves are a weak point in the containment system of gloveboxes because of their combustibility and mediocre fire resistance. In an effort to improve their resistance to loss of containment by heat and fire, various manufacturers of gloves and elastomers were contacted for promising new developments. Tests with a special formulation of silicone rubber sheet showed superior heat and fire resistance to conventional glove materials. Adaptation to glove manufacture and evaluation of other properties essential to glovebox use are needed. Two new materials potentially adaptable to glove manufacture should be investigated.
