- Abstract
- In-situ burning is the combustion of an oil spill on the water (in situ is Latin for "in place"). Although burning spilled oil on the shoreline could also be considered in-place combustion, and has been used in inland regions, shoreline burning presents a more problematic set of concerns in marine areas. We will focus instead on open-water in-situ burning in the marine environment.
