- Abstract
- Gentlemen, I welcome the opportunity to talk with you today regarding fire safety. At the time I received this invitation, I was employed by the steel industry. Since then, I have become Chief of the Fire Research Section at the National Bureau of Standards. In talking about fire safety, we can talk about two worlds--the one in which we live--and the one in which we would like to live. the world that we live in does have fixed rules, many based on tradition. These rules are called Building Code requirements, and they state that certain things must be achieved by the buildings that we build, if they are to be judged as acceptable and fire safe.
