Abstract
This the Final Technical Report, Item 0001AD sumitted on June 28, 1997. This Phase 1 SBIR program has initiated the development of a new series of flame resistant high performance polymer matrix composites (PMCs) that have improved performance over state of the art PMCs. These new PEOP (Polyaryl Ether Phosphine Oxide) flame retardant matrix materials incorporate flame and smoke resistance through both char former and chemical inhibition mechanisms that are chemically incorporated (not blended) into the polymer structure for enhanced thermal stability.
