- Abstract
- The Oxygen Index Flammability Test was originally proposed by Fenimore and Martin for use in studying the flammability of polymeric materials. In the few years since its development, the test has become widely used and an ASTM Standard has now been developed which should further its acceptance, in this report, we discuss the work involved in standardizing the test including a discussion of the test equipment needed and the test procedure to be followed. Several examples of the application of the method are presented and the relationship betwen this test and several other widely accepted flammability tests is discussed.
