- Abstract
- The need for a less-flammable hydraulic fluid has been emphasized by recent combat experience. MLO-68-5 was selected for evaluation due to its desirable lower flammability and ohter characteristics. The evaluation program consisted of F-4 Flight Control Simulator (Iron Bird) hydraulic systems tests and tests in selected separate subsystems. The F4 Flight Control Simulator tests included a dynamic performance comparison between MLO-68-5 and MIL-H-5606, and an endurance test was conducted by cycling through three typical mission profiles. Separate tests were conducted using the F-4 utility system suction line subsystem, aerial refueling subsystem, and arresting gear subsystem.
