- Abstract
- An incendiary fire that began in combustible rubble from the demolition of a department store in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, on November 25, 1982, intensified rapidly and spread to the remaining section of the building, which was open to the outdoors at every floor. The resulting severe fire exposure to an adjoining 16-story bank caused ignition on all floors of the bank building from the sixth to the top floor. A light court of the bank building appeared to create a chimney-like effect, which increased the fire exposure to the high-rise bank building.
