- Abstract
- An overview of the Navy's survivability program are presented along with summaries of the five major components: passive fire protection, insensitive munitions, fleet backfit, new ship design and research/development/operations and maintenance. The overall goal of the Surface Ship Survivability Program is to improve the fleet's ability to absorb battle damage and remain combat capable. Much of this program is applicable to, or interfaces with, aircraft especially in the area of passive fire protection, damage control and safety. The emphasis being placed on these areas is evidenced by the attention and funding these programs are receiving.
