Abstract
Halon in mobile fire extinguishers and in fixed devices are thought to be unnecessary and can be subsituted by extinguishing agents being less dangerous to the environment. But they have to be used exceptionally, till an equal substitute is found. In many cases powder can be sustituted in many fields by water extinguishers, which already happens in lost of places. Foam cannot be relinquished but an accurate use of foam (less dangerous to the environment) and by reasonable use in training centers something can be done for the environment. The fire service cannot only work with the extinguishing agent water. They do need for all different fires extinguishing admixtures and in a minimum quantity special extinguishing agents.
