Abstract
The report is part of the documentation from an interdicipline research program aiming at preparing a basis for specification and development of fast action, efficient and highly reliable safety systems for oil and gas process systems. Included in the reliability concept is the minimizaton of the frequency of false alamrs. The report presents techniques suitable for anlayzing the reliability of different fire and gas detector systems, both with respect to safety availability and spuriously generated signals. The possibility of common mode failures is included in the calculations.
