Abstract
This paper will describe furan resins and new catalyst which allow improved processing and fire performance. Glass fiber reinforced unsaturted polyester resins have predominated in the fabrication of large chemical equipment. Resins based on Het acid and Bisphenol-A have built up an impressive track record over the years handling an endless array of chemicals. Het acid based resins such as Hetron 92, Hetron 92C and Hetron 197, because of their combined corrosion and fire resistant properties, have predominated in the fabrication of ventilating equipment, ducting and scrubbers, etc. This particular segment of the chemical equipment area currently at 20 million pounds of resin is expected to expand to 120 million pounds by 1978.
