- Abstract
- The attached tables present estimated product-related fire losses that occurred in U.S. residential structure fires attended by the fire service during 1998, the most recent year for which these data are available. Part II of this report presents estimates for the most recent five years of data (1994 - 1998), plus a benchmark year. All estimates were derived from data provided by the U.S. Fire Administration's (USFA) National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). All estimates presented in this report exclude losses associated with incendiary and suspicious fires. Estimates presented in this report are not comparable to those published in previous years due to changes in methodology. The methodology used for deriving the fire loss estimates contained in this report is detailed in the Methodology section.
