- This presentation reviews the work done at the Naval Weapons Center on Composite Material Fire Response from 1977 to the present. The topics covered are: (1) Smoldering Combustion, (2) Composite Aircraft Fire-Fighting Techniques, (3) Composite Fastener Leak Characterization. Health hazards related to composite materials burning, both gas toxicity and carbon fiber inhalation are also discussed along with the effects of airflow on burning composite both across the deck and in-flight.
