- Abstract
- During the past year a number of new programs have been initiated in the area of unwanted fires. Although the field of fire research is not new and the need for such work has been promoted by workers in the field, the resurgence of interest is due tin part to a recognition that fires represent a serious social problem. Perhaps the most elling indication of the severity of the problem is the per capita death rate by fire in the United States which has the distinction of beingone of the highest of the industrialized nations, 4 to 6 per 100,000.
