- Abstract
- The ignition responses of fire retardant treated black cotton cloth and black rayon cloth to the simulated thermal pulses from nuclear weapons were investigated. The temporal and spectral characteristics of the main thermal pulse from air bursts ranging from 300 KT to 100 MT were reporduced using a cored carbon arc along with a specially shaped rotating disk shutter. The treatments applied to the cloths were a combination of borax, boric acid, ammonium phosphate, diammonium phosphate, and ammonium sulfate which were recommended for home administered treatment of fabrics by the Department of Agriculture.
