- The objectives of the conference can be described as "strategic" rather than "tactical": that is to say, it was an attempt to determine how many organizations and industries were concerned with the problem of dust explosions; how serious the problem was; whether sufficient research was being carried out to be able to cope with, and to abate, the explosion hazard; and, if not, how much more research was required and how this was to be organized and carried out.
