- [ABSTRACT IN ENGLIGH] As far as the subject of fire behavior of building materials is concerned there is not direct standardization work. The necessary scientific data shall be gained in a several years old research program. The EC-commission granted a contemporary mandate to standardize the fire behavior of building elements. The time-limit for completion of these standards is very narrow. A main part of the standards shall be completed until the end of 1992 to get into the procedure of general inquiry. Work on most of the standards has been started and goes on smoothly. But there is already no doubt that the time-limit cannot be fullfilled. The mandated standards are test standards. The classification shall be introduced in standards for products. As the product standard can only be worked on when the test standards are ready it will need several years until the proposition by standards to allow unlimited trade with building products are being subject to fire safety requirements.
