Abstract
In recent years several studies have reported extensive measurements of stable species in hydrocarbon diffusion flames. However, little information is available on radical concentrations. This lack of quantitative data on radical species severely limits critical evaluation of proposed mechanisms of chemical growth and also hampers comparison of results from diffusion flames with those from premixed flames. New optical measurements of absolute OH concentrations and relative H-atom concentrations have been made in an atmospheric-pressure, laminar methane/air diffusion flame.
