Abstract
Forty-five years ago a series of tests to determine possible causes of dust explosions were being completed at the Pennsylvania State College only a short distance from the building in which this meeting is being held. These tests centered around the operation of an attrition mill producing different types of grain dust and the investigation touched on various phases of the subject, including sparks produced by foreign material entering the mill, static electricity in the mill, the effect of humidity, and some explosion preventive measures that were suggested during the progress of the work.
