Abstract
This report focuses on the Escape and Rescue Model, a deterministic discrete event model for the emergency evacuation of board and care home. It is the final report of the project, and is written in such a fashion that those persons who require only a general understanding of the model need only read a small fraction of the report, while those interested in a deeper understanding can find all of the information that they require. A general introduction to the model appears first. Next appear detailed sections about (1) background information necessary in the preparation of the input, (2) the decisions performed by the various sections of the model, and (3) the format of the model's input and output. Information on the calibration and validation of the model is given, as well as conclusions derived from its use. Appendices contain the program listing as well as two sample simulation runs.
