- Abstract
- The composite fabrication process was traced from ply cutting, through layup, cure, inspection and machining. The types of equipment used in each operation were discussed. The procedures for dealing with prepeg and cured offal were outlined. Worker health precautions, including epoxy-related dermatitis and machining dust were explained. Composite manufacture is a relatively mature operation. The safety parameters are known and controlled, as with other aircraft materials. The chief area of development is automation of manual operations, which will tend to further reduce concern over worker contract with the various materials involved.
