Abstract
A research program is being carried out to study the mechanisms controlling the spread of fire in a convective gas flow. Research performed during this reporting period includes primarily theoretical studies of the ignition and establishment of a flame over a combustible surface evaporating in a still environment, or in a stagnation point flow, and of the dependence on the characteristics of an oxidizing gas flow of the spread of flames over the surface of a thick solid combustible. Both studies provide relevant information about the mechanisms leading to the establishment of a flame its spread over a solid combustible surface.
