- Abstract
- To study the affects of design upon construction, the Design Task Force of the Construction Industry Institute has instigated research to develop and evaluate a useful procedure to quantitatively evaluate the effects of design outputs. This report is one result of that research. The research project occurred over a two year period beginning in January of 1985. This report concludes the first phase of the research project; it identifies design effectiveness criteria and describes a modification of the Objectives Matrix method to evaluate these criteria. The second phase of the research will be completed in late 1986. A future report on the second phase will include further analysis of the Objectives Matrix method and will present and discuss extensive project data on the design effectiveness criteria. In this report, the construction and uses of the Objectives Matrix are explained, and a matrix to evaluate design effectiveness is presented.
