Abstract
The Naval Air Rework Facility have found no ill effects to their employees as a result of working with composite dusts or resins. Sampling revealed results well below the Threshold Limit Value (TLV) for pneumoconiosis producing dusts as a consequence of the local exhaust systems and cleaning procedures we have incorporated. They have worn disposable 3M-08710 respirators as an added precaution and make use of disposable (surgical type) gloves in handling the raw resins. They use a lightweight, close fitting synthetic leather glove manufactured by Edmont Wilson in handling the fiberous materials (rough edges). As a result of the Composites in Fires Workshop, they intend to place each of their employees now involved with composite work on the medical surveillance program. However, this is subject to approval by their geographical medical command.
