- Abstract
- A mathematical model for diffusion controlled combustion in a turbulent eddy is presented. The model is intended asa computational "molecule", to be imbedded in larger scale reacting flow simulaitons, while retaining the fundamental physical/chemical mechanisms thought to dominate combustion processes in a fire environment. It contains three principal components: an exact solution of the Navier-Stokes equation describing the vortex field, an equation for the mixture fraction incorporating species and energy conservation; and the fluid expansion representing the feedback from the heat release. These are used in conjunction with both idealized and experimentaly measured state relations to describe the temeprature and major species distributions in the eddy as funcitons of vortex strength, strain rate and fuel.
