- Abstract
- The flammability characteristics of a textile system are principally determined by its chemical composition. The TRI research program on flammability has documented many of the important and frequently subtle effects of chemical composition as it is modified by fiber type, fiber blending and chemical additives. It has always been intuitively suspected, however, that the geometric arrangement of fibers in the textile system may also play an important role. Studies have been initiated some time ago to establish rigorously and quantitatively the effects of constructional factors on fabric flammability behavior. This Note presents some interesting and significant results on the flammability of a polyester twill fabric.
