- Abstract
- As a necessary and multipurpose fuel, oil must be produced, refined, and in many cases, transported from one country to another. Consequently, yet unfortunately, thousands of oil spills on water occur annually around the world. In sone instances, only a slight discoloration of the water occurs, while in others, thousands of gallons of useful crude oil are lost. Environmental hazards arise when oil spills reach inland waters destroying plant and animal life.
