- Abstract
- Turbulent natural convection fires at the base of a vertical wall were considered. The burning surface was simulated by 51-305 mm high wicks soaked with methanol, ethanol or 1-propanol. Measurements were made of burning rates in the pyrolysis zone; radiative and convective heat fluxes to the wall (and radiative heat flux to the ambiance) in the wall plume above the pyrolysis zone; and profiles of mean velocity, temperature and concentrations in all regions of the flow.
