- Ever since the time of the Greeks, people have been trying to harness the sun. Today's increasing energy costs and concern about dwindling energy supplies have sparked renewed interest in capturing the sun's energy to heat and cool our houses, offices, and factories. The solar energy systems being developed fall into two categories--active and passive.
