Abstract
[ABSTRACT IN ENGLIGH] This paper presents the physical background for passive and active smoke ventilators, i.e., for natural and mechanical smoke extraction. Examples are presented to illustrate the influence of the air entrance area and the influence of a false ceiling on the overall efficiency of natural smoke ventilation systems. Some important results of a model study concerning mechanical smoke extraction are given. Finally, two applications for smoke ventilators commonly encountered in civil engineering structures, but not covered in the relevant standards and regulations are discussed, namely smoke ventilators in double inclined sky-lights and in roofed-over street areas.
