Abstract
This report describes the first stage of an experimental lead paint hazard abatement program carried out in 30 dwelling units in Washington, D.C. The entire program will ultimately involve the abatement of lead paint hazards in a total of approximately 250 dwelling units located in three or more cities. The procedures, demonstrated in Washington, included: paint removal methods using chemical solvents and a heat producing device; the replacement of components such as windows, doors and wood trim and; the installation of flexible sheet and rigid board barrier materials over existing lead paint on wall.
