Abstract
The heat of combustion of different types of wood, bark and foliage is related to their chemical composition. Wood contains mainly holocellulose, while bark and foliage contain large amounts of phenolic and lipid extractives. The heats of combustion of these materials range from -4,150 cal/g for cellulose to -6,100 for lignin and -8,400 for the lipid extractives.
